How Search Engines Work

There are two types of search engines "crawler-based" and "human-powered." However the generic term "search engine" describes both types.

Search Engines use software called "Spiders" that crawls the Internet looking for documents and their web addresses.

The documents and web addresses collected is sent to the search engine's indexing software.

The indexing software extracts information from the documents and stores it in a database. The indexing software functionality depends on the search engine. Some index the whole content in the document and others index only the document title.

When a user search by entering keywords, the search engines search the database for documents that match.

Finally the search engine lists the results with a title, short descriptions and web addresses which are hypertext links(The user can click the link).

Hoping the post is very simple to read and easy to understand..Let's see how to get indexed in the search engines in the next session.
